The 2026 index

The website has room to grow: the index found one for half of creative businesses.

15 of 30

Bahamian creative businesses in the 2026 index have a website that loads. With so few read, one business moves this a long way.

For creative work the website holds the portfolio, where a client sees the work and sends the inquiry. The index counts a live booking-platform profile as an open website, and one takes an afternoon to an evening once the work is chosen. A site of your own is paid work, set out in the plan below.

What makes a website count as open

The website counts most for creative businesses.

A client judges the work on the website.

  • Google Business Profile

    Recommended · 21 points

Clients here search by name or by what they need more than by what is nearby, so a Google Business Profile matters less for most creative work. If you shoot weddings or events, keep it, because those clients do search nearby.

  • Website

    Required · 37 points

The portfolio is the whole point. A live website or booking-platform profile is where a client judges your work and your scope, and it is where the inquiry arrives.

  • Facebook Page

    Recommended · 21 points

For visual work Instagram usually does this job. This edition scores the Facebook Page as the stand-in for an active social presence, so keep it posting and let Instagram lead.

  • WhatsApp

    Recommended · 21 points

Once the work has convinced a client, the first message about a project often arrives here, beside the form on your website. It gives a client who is ready to talk a direct line to you.

Required: central to how this industry’s customers find, trust and contact a business, so it carries the most points.

Recommended: useful, but customers can still find and contact the business through its other open doors.

The points on the four cards add up to 100, the most any business can score in any industry.

How creative businesses compare with the country, door by door.

Creative businesses are ahead of the country on the website and WhatsApp, though the index checked only 30.

AI assistants answer clients from the work a creative business publishes.

Wherever the work lives, on a site of your own or a booking-platform profile, captions and a named list of services give an assistant something to quote. A gallery with no captions gives it little to go on. ChatGPT and Google’s AI Mode both work in The Bahamas. ChatGPT’s search can include a website that lets OpenAI’s crawler in, and Google asks for important content to be written as text. Bahamian creative businesses have a website more often than the country, though the index read only 30 of them, so for many the work already has a home an assistant may read.

What an AI assistant reads before it recommends a business

Of the Four Digital Doors, a creative business opens the website first.

It holds the work a client judges, and the other three doors each point a client back to it.

  1. Website

    Required

This is the one door you own, and the one that counts most here. The portfolio lives on it, and the inquiry arrives through it.

A few evenings with a builder, weeks with a professional

    Set it up properly
A booking-platform profile counts to start. Your own website needs work with captions, named services and a form or WhatsApp link. Domain and hosting carry a yearly cost.
    Make it work harder

Put the newest piece first. Caption each piece with what it was and for whom. Name each service on its own webpage. Put the inquiry link on every webpage. Google Search Console shows which searches bring visitors.

  2. Facebook Page

    Recommended

This door shows recent work to people who were not looking for a photographer or designer today, with a link back to your website.

An evening if the photos are to hand, longer from nothing

    Set it up properly
Create a Facebook Page for the business. Do not run the business from a personal profile. Fill in the category, About section and website address. Post a few pieces with captions.
    Make it work harder

Post each piece as you finish it, with the caption from the website. Put the website address and the WhatsApp number in every post. Answer messages within a day. Meta Business Suite shows which posts sent people to the website.

  3. WhatsApp Business

    Recommended

Clients talk to you here. Briefs, proofs and approvals pass through the chat, and a deposit can follow by payment link.

Short to register, an evening or more to set up

    Set it up properly
Register WhatsApp Business on a number kept for the business. Fill in the business profile with what you do, where you work and the website address.
    Make it work harder

Write a quick reply that asks for the date, the place and the brief. Set business hours and an away message. Put the WhatsApp link beside the form on your website. Sort chats into lists, such as new briefs and proofs out.

  4. Google Business Profile

    Recommended

Local clients find you here. A search for a photographer or designer nearby shows your work photos and a link to your website.

Short to start, days to a week or more for Google’s check, an evening to fill in

    Set it up properly
Claim and verify it. Search your business on Google and complete the check Google asks for, then add a few pieces of work and the website address. Claiming is free.
    Make it work harder

Answer the reviews. Keep the website address on the profile current. Add a recent piece now and then. Once a month, read the profile’s own count of website clicks.

After the doors are open

Open doors need a weekly habit: the same hours, prices and contact number on every door, and every message answered. A client can find a piece of work on your Facebook Page, see the rest on your website and send the brief in WhatsApp Business. The inquiries that come in show which pieces draw clients and which services they name when they write.
