A Facebook Page is free to create, and a post goes up in minutes, so recent posts show the business is active.

Facebook shows the owner’s own photos and short videos to people who do not follow the Page when it predicts they will be interested, so the reach is partial and decided one viewer at a time.

The Page sends people who see it on to WhatsApp, where you talk, through the WhatsApp button on the Page and the number you put in each post. The website link in its Links section sends them on to your website.

How the Four Digital Doors work together

Which industries need it

A Facebook Page is Required in three of the eight industries.

Each industry gives this door a class, and Required means that industry’s customers expect the business to be there.

Facebook Page by industry: the class, the share of that industry’s businesses with a Page a customer can open, and the businesses read, against all businesses.
Industry, ClassOpen shareBusinesses read
Restaurants Required 43.8% 573 businesses read
Tourism Recommended 42.6% 338 businesses read
Salons and Beauty Required 34.8% 336 businesses read
Retail Required 31.3% 399 businesses read
Auto Services Optional 27.8% 255 businesses read
Professional Services Optional 23.3% 416 businesses read
Home Services Optional 20.2% 253 businesses read
Creative Services Recommended 20.0% 30 businesses read
Creative Services is a small group, so one business moves its share a lot. Classes are the index’s judgment · the 2026 index

Restaurants, Salons and Beauty, and Retail rate it Required, and Tourism and Creative Services rate it Recommended. For Auto, Home and Professional Services it is Optional, which means their customers rarely use it to find or choose a business, so it carries the fewest points. A Page still helps customers who already know the business. Each industry’s order for opening its doors is on its own plan.

Do I need a Facebook Page if I have the other three doors?

It depends on your industry. Restaurants, Salons and Beauty, and Retail rate a Facebook Page Required, and for a shop a Page and WhatsApp can carry most of the selling to begin with. Tourism and Creative Services rate it Recommended. For Auto, Home and Professional Services it is Optional, though a Page still helps customers who already know the business. In time a website is worth adding beside it, because it is the one door you control.

Facebook links on record

Most links on record open a working Facebook Page.

If yours does not, the Page is often still there at a new address, and the fix is the link.

Businesses with a Facebook link on record, by what the link opened. Opens a working Page, 78.3%, 862. A link that did not work when read, 14.3%, 157. Not confirmed either way, 7.4%, 82.

Businesses with a Facebook link on record, by what the link opened. Businesses with no link on record are not in the bar.

A Page’s address comes from its username, so changing the username changes the address, and an owner who opens the Page from inside Facebook may never see that the printed link no longer works.

When the index re-checked the recorded links that did not work, nearly half turned up the business’s current Page at another address. The fix there is the link, and the bar is counted after that re-check.

To see what a customer sees, open the link from your website or card in a private browsing window.

1,499

of the 2,600 businesses in the 2026 index had no Facebook link on record.

The re-check, counted

Re-checking the recorded links that did not work found the business’s current Page for 116 businesses, confirmed the same Page at a changed address for 25, and left 157 unresolved. The bar is counted after this re-check.

How to open it, and what comes next

How to create a Facebook Page, then build it out

Not found means no Page at a working link turned up in public sources, which is not proof there is none.

Open it: Open means an active Facebook Page.

  1. Create the Page Short, on a phone Can I just use my personal profile?

No. The index does not count a personal profile as an open Facebook door. Creating a Page is free, and you make it from the personal profile you already have. The personal profile and the Page stay separate, and customers see the Page.

In the Facebook app, open the menu, tap Pages, then Create, and enter the Page name and a category.

If you use a personal profile

If the business runs on a personal profile today, create a Page from it, then put the Page’s address wherever the personal profile’s address is published.

  2. Publish the Page’s address Short to check each place it appears My Page link is broken. Is it gone?

The Page is often still there. An old link can fail while the Page is live under the business’s name at a changed web address, as the index found when it re-checked the Facebook links on record that came back broken. Search the business name on Facebook to find it.

Put the Page’s address on your website and your Google listing, and correct any old link. The address follows the Page’s username, so a new username changes it.

    Checking each printed link

Open each place the link is printed, on the website, the Google listing, a card or a menu, and see where it lands. If a Page is there under a changed address, correct the link. If no Page is there, create one.

Open. Past this line, the door counts as open.

Build it out: What a Facebook Page needs once it is open

Steps three and four set up what your score reads: a post in the last three months, and at least one follower.

  1. Post your own work Short each time, then ongoing How often do I need to post?

Meta’s guidance for Pages gives no number. It says a Page does best when the business posts often, answers the people who follow it and keeps its contact details current. The index reads whether a Page has posted in the last three months.

Post your own photos and short videos of the work, the stock or the day’s special. Meta favours original posts over reposts, and every new video is now a reel.

    Posting rhythm and scheduling

Choose a rhythm you can hold. Posts can be scheduled ahead in Meta Business Suite. Posting not read on your score? Open your Page and look at the date on the top post.

    Owners also ask

Do my posts reach people who do not follow the Page?

Some do. Facebook ranks each person’s Feed by what it predicts they will want to see, and mixes in posts from accounts they do not follow. In Meta’s United States figures for April to June 2026, those recommended posts were about a third of Feed views, and posts from followed Pages and people about one in seven. Reach is decided viewer by viewer, so no post reaches everyone.

  2. Ask customers to follow the Page Short to ask At the counter or in a message.

Ask the customers you already serve to follow the Page, at the counter, in a WhatsApp message or on a printed card.

  3. Fill in the basics An evening or more, with the hours to hand Phone, address and hours.

Check the name and category, then add the phone number, the address or area served, and the hours.

  4. Add services and a menu link An evening or more, with details ready Services, menu and your website.

Add the services you offer and a menu link, and put your website in the Page’s Links section, so a customer can act from the Page.

  5. Add WhatsApp to the Page and posts Short, once the number exists Why can I post only a few links?

Some Pages report a limit of two link posts a month unless they pay for a subscription. Meta has confirmed a test but has not announced a limit for every Page. Posts with an outside link reach few people in any case.

Connect your WhatsApp number in the Page’s settings to add a WhatsApp button, and put the number in each post, where it travels with the post.

    WhatsApp · reachable

  6. Add an action button Short From the Page’s Options menu.

Add a button from the Page’s Options menu, so a customer can act without scrolling.

  7. Take part in local groups As the Page, not as yourself.

Where a local group allows Pages, take part as the Page rather than as your personal profile.

  8. Answer messages and comments Ongoing How do I get the reply badge?

Answer messages reliably and quickly. Facebook shows a responsiveness badge on Pages that do, and adds it on its own once it has enough to go on.

Answer the messages waiting in the Page’s inbox and keep answering as they arrive.

    Checking the reply badge

Reply badge not read on your score? Open your own Page signed out, on a phone, and look under the name.

  9. Turn on Recommendations Short Let customers recommend you.

Turn on Recommendations, which let customers recommend the Page. Meta says they may make the Page easier to find.

  10. Read Insights How the Page and each post did.

Meta Business Suite shows how the Page and each post did, and who saw them.

  11. Keep it visible to everyone Short to check Visible to anyone not logged in.

Check that the Page has no country or age restriction, which hides it from anyone not logged in to Facebook.

Keep it open

  1. Keep the details matched Ongoing Match it to your other doors.

Keep answering the inbox, and check now and then that the Page’s hours, phone number and website match your website and Google listing.

A post does its job when it carries a way to reach you, and on a Facebook Page that way is WhatsApp, where you talk. In Meta’s United States figures for April to June 2026, posts with an outside link were about one in a hundred Feed views, so put the WhatsApp number in the post itself.
